International Experience – New Perspectives: Professional Development Training for the Leadership of Higher Educational Establishments of Central Asia Held in Cambridge City of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland

In accordance with the principles of Permanent Neutrality of Turkmenistan, our country attaches great importance to the development of international cooperation on the basis of peace, equality and mutual respect. Under the leadership of our esteemed President, as one of the priorities of the state policy, large-scale work is being carried out to develop human capital, modernize the education system and introduce leading international experience into national practice. In this regard, cooperation with prestigious foreign educational centers serves as an important tool aimed at strengthening the management capabilities of higher educational establishments and developing a system of teacher training that meets modern requirements.

   Representatives of the education sector of Turkmenistan are participating in professional development training for the leadership of higher educational establishments of Central Asia which is holding in Cambridge city of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, on January 26-31, 2026.

The professional development training is conducted within the framework of the educational project “Accelerating English Language Learning in Central Asia” (AELLCA Phase II) and is based on the PRESETT Leadership Skills Development Program, developed in collaboration with the Publishing and Assessment Department of the University of Cambridge for the leadership of universities from the participating Central Asian countries.

The main objectives of the study visit are to improve leadership and management capacities within the PRESETT (Pre-Service Teacher Education) system, to get acquainted with advanced and innovative methods of teaching English, to study modern pedagogical approaches and international experience in teacher training, to expand knowledge on curriculum development and assessment systems, to study about the use of digital technologies and modern educational resources and to analyze the possibilities of applying the acquired experience in the education system of Turkmenistan.

On the first day of the visit, January 26, the opening ceremony of the training programme was held. During the first session titled “Leading English Language Reforms within the PRESETT Program,” the participants discussed issues related to planning educational reforms and monitoring their implementation. They also studied the experience of modernizing curricula and widely introducing the English language, carried out by the Publishing and Assessment Department of the University of Cambridge. Participants identified existing issues in their institutions and determined initial directions for addressing them.

Currently, the professional development training continues according to the program of the educational visit.
