A MEETING DEDICATED TO SPANISH CULTURE AND LANGUAGE WAS HELD
An engaging and professionally enriching meeting was held at the Faculty of European Languages and Literature of Dovletmammet Azadi Turkmen National Institute of World Languages for students and instructors of the Pedagogy program specializing in Spanish and English languages. The event aimed to support professional development and broaden students’ academic and cultural perspectives. The distinguished guest of the event was Aleksey Sanchez, Political Affairs Officer at the Embassy of the United States in Turkmenistan. Representatives of the embassy and officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan also attended the meeting and engaged in discussions with students about the importance of diplomatic relations and cultural exchange.
In their remarks, the guests emphasized the growing importance of foreign languages in the modern world and their crucial role in international cooperation. They also addressed the motivations behind the students’ decision to study Spanish and highlighted the language’s future potential in diplomatic and economic relations. In turn, the students expressed their strong interest in the prominent place of the Spanish language in world culture and introduced their academic and research activities in this field.
During the meeting, Aleksey Sanchez delivered a presentation entitled “The Role of Hispanic Heritage in the United States and Its Influence on American Culture.” In his talk, he elaborated on the significance of Hispanic Heritage Month, which is celebrated annually in the United States from September 15 to October 15. He discussed in detail the role of the Spanish language in American social life, literature, and the arts. The guest also shared valuable insights into the unique history and culture of the countries of South America, as well as the diverse regional varieties of Spanish spoken across the continent. Particular attention was given to Castilian Spanish as the standard literary form of the Spanish language and to the distinctive dialectal features found in different regions, which further enriched the discussion.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the participants sincerely expressed their heartfelt wishes for the continued good health and long life of our Hero-Arkadag and Arkadagly Hero Serdar, whose far-sighted policies create extensive opportunities for Turkmen youth to study world languages and to develop into highly qualified specialists of international standing. They also wished that their noble initiatives and lofty endeavors would always prosper.
