ENGLISH LANGUAGE EDUCATION OF TURKMENISTAN IN INTERNATIONAL COLLABORATION

From 5-7 March 2026, the “English Language and Inclusivity Partnership Summit” was held at the Wyndham hotel in Tashkent. The summit, which elevated regional English language reforms to a new stage of development, was organized within the framework of the Accelerating English Language Learning in Central Asia (AELLCA) programme and funded by UK International Development. The forum focused on embedding world-class practices in pre-service English teacher education (PRESETT). Representatives of Dovletmammet Azadi Turkmen National Institute of World Languages and International University for the Humanities and Development actively participated in this strategic event.

In accordance with the programme agenda, the summit commenced on the 5th of March. During the proceedings, representatives of Dovletmammet Azadi Turkmen National Institute of World Languages presented to the international community the outcomes of the project entitled “Embedding Inclusive Practices in Teacher Education,” implemented in partnership with Nottingham Trent University. This collaboration primarily aimed at enhancing pedagogical training in Turkmenistan and transforming the learning environment into a more inclusive and contemporary model. The Turkmen specialists not only delivered presentations but also actively engaged in specialized consultations with representatives of other higher education institutions in the region on curriculum reform and institutional governance transformation.

Furthermore, throughout the summit, they exchanged experience with higher education institutions from Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan on overcoming shared educational challenges across Central Asia. Turkmen experts participated in focused working groups dedicated to ensuring sustainability in Continuing Professional Development (CPD) and implementing sustainable institutional change within educational establishments. They also contributed to panel discussions on maintaining gender equality and inclusivity in the region, analyzing pathways for aligning English language teaching quality in Turkmenistan with international standards.

In addition, Dovletmammet Azadi Turkmen National Institute of World Languages, in cooperation with Nottingham Trent University, suggested several concrete proposals for future initiatives. These include expanding Continuing Professional Development (CPD); establishing a permanent Teachers’ Hub, supported by the AELLCA programme, to integrate PRESETT and INSETT educators; organizing Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) projects, virtual seminars, and academic exchanges within the framework of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Institute and Nottingham Trent University; advancing inclusive curriculum development within PRESETT programmes; and delivering specialized training for faculty members on inclusive pedagogical methodologies.

Held at a high organizational level in the Republic of Uzbekistan, the summit aimed to support national English language reforms and internationalization efforts, showcase the achievements of partnership projects, disseminate best practices in teacher education and inclusive implementation, foster dialogue on gender equality, and formulate a sustainable cooperation strategy. This international event once again demonstrated that Turkmenistan’s education system is harmoniously aligned with leading global practices and that Turkmen educators are recognized as professionals of international standing.
